STRATEGY: CONNECTING CULTURE,
CAPABILITIES AND CONTEXT
Strategy
Presentation with the Antioch Network | Kiev Ukraine | April

At it’s core, strategy is simply these broad brush activities that an organization engages to achieve its goals. In other words, strategy not only describes action, but also implies goals. So it is little wonder that when discussing strategy the subject of objectves and goals invariably comes into play. Successful activities, objectives, and goals are derived from three crucial elements. The first of these elements are the culture or character of your organization. This requires honest scrutiny of why your organization exists and what it hopes to achieve. A strategy that ignores this element is insincere. Would you consider purchasing a luxury item at Walmart: the home of everyday low proces? The second element of successful strategy is a consideration of the capabilities of your organization. An assessment of capabilities encompasses more than your physical assets, but also your competencies and areas of expertise. Oganizations can certainly grow capabilities to achieve goals, but even this calls for acknowledgment of current deficiencies and strategy that considers the time and resources to accomplish this. Strategy that ignores capability can often become impotent: completely incapable of achieving anything. The final element is a clear understanding of your organization’s context which is the fruit of sound and thorough research. Knowing the environment in which your organization operates empowers you to successfully deploy capabilities to achieve your goals. Without clear and confident Clarity Research can work with your organization to develop strategy that considers all three so that your plans do not become insincere, irrelevant, or impotent.
